National Monument Camp Vught is located approximately 60 kilometres from Ysselsteyn. Travelling with your own transportation is recommended.

In this workshop, participants will explore the culture of remembrance through the ages and will find their own approach to a contemporary form of remembering and commemoration.

The workshop will examine the propaganda of National Socialism to show its effects, especially on young people.

The subject “war and peace” is a broad topic and often not easy to put into words, especially for young people. Therefore this workshop focuses on visual aspect.

What would be a stay in the Netherlands without a bicycle tour? You can use the bicycles of the educational meeting centre to go on a bike tour in the surrounding area.

Maintenance work such as cleaning gravestones, gardening or colouring gravestone inscriptions are usual and practical components of the Volksbund's youth work.

Using historical sources, such as documents, photos, letters or diary entries, the pupils work in small groups to investigate biographical aspects of the life stories of war dead who are buried in Ysselsteyn.

The history of the cemetery is embedded in the historical context and connected with the transition of the culture of remembrance over time.

What was the life of a frontline soldier like? What does peace mean and how can we protect our freedom? We explore these questions at the German war cemetery in Ysselsteyn and at the Freedom Museum in Groesbeek.

This workshop is suitable for school classes with prior knowledge of National Socialism. After the search for clues in the exhibition, there will be an evaluation and reflection on site.
